27 September 2005:
Thailand gives US$10m to UN's tsunami fund
Thailand has contributed US$ 10 million to a trust fund managed by the UNESCAP to help develop tsunami warning systems for the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asian regions and called on other nations to match its commitment to protect the peoples of the regions' coastlines, as well as millions of visitors.

28 September 2005:
Duty-free arcade slated for Phuket
Sawasdee Duty Free Plaza constructed as part of the government's plan to revive tourism in the Andaman Sea region will open in Phuket on October 15. The duty-free shop is expected to create more than Bt 10 million revenue daily.

30 September 2005:
Phang-nga community is building loudspeaker warning towers
Phang Nga's four disaster warning public address system towers in Takua Pa and Kuraburi districts will be finished and ready for use within two months. The budget for the construction comes from the private sector and community organizations.

01 October 2005:
The SME bank and a German financial institute help out Tsunami-hit people
The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Bank has signed an agreement with a financial institute from Germany, to provide Bt 1.3 billion credit to the tsunami-affected business operators. The loan aims to help stimulate the economy of Thailand.

02 October 2005:
BOT: Tourist arrivals decline 2% in August
The number of foreign tourists visited Thailand in August this year, is down 2 per cent from the corresponding period of 2004, according to a report issued by the Bank of Thailand (BOT). Foreign tourists entering the country through the deep South in August also dropped due to various factors, including concerns about the Dec tsunami, smog from Indonesia and the current violence in the three southernmost provinces. Hotel room occupancy in all parts of Thailand in August stood at 63.8 per cent, compared to 66.1 per cent in the same period of 2004 adding that hotel room occupancy in the South alone retreated sharply to 44.2 per cent, compared to 60.1 per cent in August last year.

The construction of Rajaprachanukroh school in Phuket is 40% in progress
The construction of Rachaprachanukroh School 36 to replace the tsunami damaged of Ban Kamala school in Phuket is now 40% in progress and will be completed before December 5th.

03 October 2005:
Krabi's tsunami evacuation drill went well
More than 3,000 residents of Ao Nang, Krabi's tourist beach took part in a tsunami evacuation exercise last week. The exercise aimed at risk reduction and prevention of loss of lives and properties in case of a natural disaster and to restore confidence for residents and tourists.
