25 July 2005:
Thailand averts second tsunami
The National Disaster Warning Centre gave out warning to evacuate to high places due to a possible small to medium-scaled tsunami after
a strong earthquake, measured 7.3 on the richter scale, took place in the Andaman Sea at 10:42 p.m., with its epicentre located about
664 kilometres southwest from Phuket. Fortunely, the feared second tsunami did not take place, and people later moved back to their
residences safely.
25 July June 2005:

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, has confirmed that financial aid to Tsunami affected
people up until July 13th, amounting to 420 million baht, has already been provided to the victims. Around 3,000 new permanent houses
still need to be build. The cabinet has also approved a 4.6 billion baht budget for taking care of the coral reefs and marine animals
along the Andaman coast, as well as the restoration of public infrastructures.
