Overview
This section aims at giving a picture of the development situation of Thailand in recent years. Although Thailand is a middle income country, poverty and income disparity remain important issues facing the country. The main development issues the country faces are expressed in the areas the UN has identified as its priority areas for Thailand. In addressing them, the UN will work closely together with the Royal Thai Government, whose priorities as identified in its 9th National Plan are closely interrelated with those of the UN system in Thailand.
Due to Thailand’s geopolitical position, regional co-operation, about which you can also read more in this section, is an important modality for the implementation of development policies. To complete the picture of Thailand’s development situation, a breakdown of the main sources of development assistance to Thailand is provided.
